Tongue Twisters  it is a phrase or sentence which is hard to speak fast, usually because of alliteration or a sequence of nearly similar sounds. It helps develop speech skills & helps in speech therapy.

To get the full effect of a tongue twister you should try to repeat it several times, as quickly as possible, without stumbling.

Betty bought butter but the butter was bitter, so Betty bought better butter to make the bitter butter better.

BUT THE SEA SHELLS THAT SHE SELLS,
ON THE SEA SHORE ARE NOT THE REAL ONES

The Passenger Pigeon

This is an article related to the WayAhead 4 Chapter 9.

A passenger pigeon – a migratory bird hunted to extinction by man. Billions of these birds inhabited eastern North America in the early 1800s;   migrating flocks darkened the skies for days. As settlers pressed westward, however, passenger pigeons were slaughtered(killed) by the million yearly and shipped by railway carloads for sale in city markets. From 1870 the decline of the species became precipitous, and it became officially classified as extinct when the last known representative died on Sept. 1, 1914, in the Cincinnati (Ohio) Zoo.

Giving directions is an important skill and one that many students will surely be able to use in real life. This was the main objective for the lesson delivered by Mr. Etienne Vella to his Year 5 class at Gozo College Għajnsielem Primary.  An actual map of Ghajnsielem centre was created specifically for this lesson.   The map is a 7 by 11 grid  (2 m by 1.10m), designed so that each square represents one Bee-Bot step.  The first part of the lesson was delivered  in class where the children were introduced to 7 directional phrases (Go straight along…Street,  Turn left at…Street, Turn right at…Street,  It’s on the left, It’s on the right,   It’s opposite the …,   It’s next to the….) The main resources for this part were two Interactive Power Point Presentations.  During the second and main part of the lesson (related to the map activity) children had to choose a card with different questions eg: ‘Excuse me. Where is the Post Office please?’  Children had to answer these questions orally and then move the Bee-Bot to the right direction on the map.  Children themselves enjoyed asking questions to each other, answering questions and giving directions to the Bee-Bot.  This was an enjoyable activity which was also related to the Way Ahead 4 – Chapter 3. The interactive whiteboard and the class computers were used for the final part of the lesson.

Il-Milied it-Tajjeb

Earthquake in Abruzzo Italy

Hi Kids. This is the song we’re going to do for our Christmas concert. Practice this song at home. This video contains the lyrics too! Watch it and sing along!

It’s Christmas time, there’s no need to be afraid
At christmas time, we let in light and we banish shade

And in our world of plenty, we can spread a smile of joy!
Throw your arms around the world at christmas time

But say a prayer – pray for the other ones
At christmas time

it’s hard, but when you’re having fun
There’s a world outside your window

And it’s a world of dreaded fear
Where the only water flowing is a bitter sting of tears
And the christmas bells that ring there are the clanging chimes of doom

Well tonight thank God it’s them instead of you

And there won’t be snow in Africa this christmas time
The greatest gift they’ll get this year is life

Where nothing ever grows
No rain or rivers flow

Do they know it’s christmas time at all?

Here’s to you
Raise your glass for everyone
Here’s to them
Underneath that burning sun

Do they know it’s christmas time at all?

Feed the world
Feed the world
Feed the world
Let them know it’s christmas time and
Feed the world
Let them know it’s christmas time and
Feed the world
Let them know it’s christmas time and
Feed the world
Let them know it’s christmas time and
Feed the world
Let them know it’s christmas time and
Feed the world
Let them know it’s christmas time
I hope you like this song even though its not christmas!

World Cup Facts

  • The World Cup of football has been played 18 times overall. It has been won 5 times by Brazil, 4 times by Italy, thrice by West Germany, twice by Argentina and Uruguay, and once by England and France.
  • Hungary holds the record for highest margin of victory after they beat El Salvador 10-1 in 1982.
  • Switzerland and Austria had the most goals between them in a match at 12, when the Austrians prevailed 7-5 at this 1954 world cup match.
  • Brazil and Germany are tied for the lead in games played at the World Cup with 92 a piece.
  • Brazil leads all countries with 64 world cup wins, 201 goals forward, and a +117 goal differential.
  • Mexico is the biggest loser at the tournament, having had 22 losses. They also have the worst goal differential, allowing 36 more than they have scored overall.
  • Germans and Italians are the most sharing, drawing 19 matches each.
  • Germany has allowed the most goals at 112.
  • Brazil leads all countries with 40 sparkling clean sheets.
  • Indonesia has played the least world cup games with only 1 (they lost 6-0). If you’re wondering why they only played one match, it’s because they refused to play Israel in their next game (presumably because they’re Jewish).
  • Germany and Brazil have made the most appearances in the world cup finals at 7 each.
  • The Germans have also made the semi-finals the most out of any country, standing their ground until the final four a total of 11 times.
  • Scotland is the most heartbreaking of all nations, failing to make it out of the first round 8 times (they’ve made the world cup 8 times, ouch).
